The website is in Korean only, not meant to serve non-Koreans . Too bad as I live in their neighborhood but I can’t understand what it is about.
a warm community! their yard sales are very generously priced and a great way to get to know your neighbors.
I have been familiar with Kkottongnae (꽃동네) for many years and have visited various locations, including New Jersey, Haiti, and Uganda. Known as "Flower Village" in English, Kkottongnae is a compassionate community established in South Korea to serve the homeless and vulnerable individuals who have been abandoned by their families and society. Over time, Kkottongnae has grown significantly, providing hospice care, medical aid, food, and shelter to more than 13,000 sick, orphaned, and abandoned people. The foundation of Kkottongnae is rooted in Christ's commandments from John 15:12-13, which call us to "love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." Witnessing this profound love in action at Kkottongnae has been a humbling and inspiring experience for me. Recently, I volunteered with GA Kkottongnae during their Garage Sale, and I have decided to continue volunteering on a monthly basis with a group of brothers from the Legion of Mary. Each time I come here, my heart is deeply moved by the Sisters of Kkottongnae, who exhibit unwavering dedication and devotion in caring for the elderly residents in their facility. Despite their limitations, they ensure that every senior receives the utmost care and attention, creating a truly warm and vibrant environment. Another admirable aspect of Kkottongnae's mission is their commitment to share food with refugees in neighboring cities, including the Myanmar community. During my recent visit, our group split into two teams—one focusing on outside garden work, such as trimming and weeding, while I prepared a special lunch for all of us. I cooked a delicious Seafood Casserole (해물탕) with Fresh Cod, shrimp, crab, clams, Enoki mushrooms, and various fresh vegetables. The meal was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, and it made our Saturday afternoon truly meaningful and memorable. We are eagerly looking forward to our next visit in August, as being part of Kkottongnae's compassionate work brings a sense of fulfillment and purpose to our lives. The impact they have on the lives of others is immeasurable, and I am grateful to be able to contribute to their meaningful cause.
