Ask about help with personal routines.
Compare rooms, meals and shared spaces.
Confirm services, fees and changing care needs.
Assisted living combines a residential setting with help for daily activities. A community may offer meals, personal care, help with medications and social activities. The services available depend on the provider and its license. Assisted living is not a substitute for continuous nursing care.
Start with a list of the support you need today, the routines you want to keep and the people you want nearby. Take that list to every community so your comparisons use the same priorities.
Use these questions to make services concrete:
Ask each community to write down the services it proposes for you. Keep those answers with its fee schedule.
Request an itemized quote for your preferred room and proposed support. Compare the base charge, care charges, medication-related fees, transportation and any one-time payments. Ask what may cause the total to change. Provider prices vary, and a published starting price may not include everything you need.

| Item to compare | Ask the community |
|---|---|
| Base monthly charge | Which room and services does this cover? |
| Personal support | Is care bundled, tiered or priced separately? |
| Other recurring charges | Which services are optional or billed separately? |
| Upfront payments | What is refundable, and under what conditions? |
| Future changes | How are price and service changes communicated? |
The Georgia Department of Community Health oversees licensing and inspection of assisted living communities and personal care homes. These are different facility categories; check the actual permit and services rather than relying on a marketing name. Match the facility name and address when checking its record. Ask the community which services its license covers and how it will meet your care needs.

Describe your needs and ask how the community evaluates them before admission. Confirm the proposed support in writing. If you are unsure about the level of care you need, discuss it with a qualified clinician who knows your situation.
Treat a starting price as a conversation starter. Ask for a quote for your room and care needs, and confirm which additional charges apply.
Yes. Use the same questions and comparison worksheet at each visit. Include the person who will live there in the discussion whenever possible.
