I am not a review person but I came and visited a family member some months back while in town and met the sweetest social worker who gave me some valuable info that I needed to help my father who is having some health issues himself.I took her advice and he just got approved for assistance I hope she is still there to get this message. God bless god bless thank you!
Kaleeka and Alexandria and the nursing staff are the best! So helpful and friendly. Everyone I met was hands above! Clean and homey feel for the residents!
I am extremely disappointed with the level of care my mother-in-law received at this facility. She has been a resident here for the past 6/7 years, and it seems that each year the quality of care declines. I have repeatedly expressed my concerns to nurses and CNAs on multiple shifts, yet very little has changed. I have also requested to speak with the Director of Nursing (DON) and the Administrator and The only person who has returned my call has been the Administrator’s assistant, and unfortunately those conversations have not resulted in any meaningful improvements. Since my concerns continue to be ignored, I feel compelled to make them public. First, personal hygiene is a major issue. My mother-in-law’s hair is frequently unkempt and severely matted because it goes unbrushed for extended periods of time. Due to limited mobility in her arm and hand, she cannot properly care for her own hair, so this responsibility falls on the staff caring for her. Her glasses are almost never on her face, and when they are, they are often filthy. Staff should be ensuring that her glasses are clean and that she is reminded to wear them, especially considering her vision impairment. Another serious concern is the cleanliness of the facility. The hallway outside her room often smells strongly of urine, and the odor is even worse inside her room. Her room door is almost always kept closed, which makes it seem as though the smell is being contained rather than addressed. Every visit I have made over the last four years has involved the same overwhelming odor. The smell is so strong that it causes my eyes to water. When staff change her after an accident, they often have to change her gown and bedding because she is completely soaked. I have personally witnessed staff wiping urine from a wet mattress using a dry section of a dirty sheet and then throwing the sheet on the floor instead of properly cleaning and sanitizing the mattress. This may explain why the odor persists. Because my mother-in-law is visually impaired and has limited hand coordination, she frequently struggles to feed herself. Food often falls onto her clothing, chest, bedding, and hair. On numerous occasions, I have arrived in the afternoon and found food from breakfast still on her neck, under her fingernails, and scattered across her clothing and bed. This indicates that basic cleaning and personal care are not being provided throughout the day. The call button beside her bed has not worked for months. When she needs assistance, she has no choice but to yell for help. Unfortunately, her room door is usually closed. Her roommate has told me that when my mother-in-law calls out for assistance, staff will sometimes come to the room only to close the door so they do not have to hear her. If this is true, it is completely unacceptable. Communication with the facility is also extremely frustrating. When I call to speak with my mother-in-law, I am frequently placed on hold for long periods of time, sometimes 15 to 20 minutes, only to have the call disconnected. This has happened repeatedly. When someone finally answers, I am often met with a rude response and told that she is still in bed, even on days when she is supposed to be out of bed for showers and activities. My mother-in-law has also told me that when she is in the dining room or sitting near the nurses’ station in her wheelchair, she regularly asks to use the phone to call family members. According to her, she is consistently ignored or told she can call later. Then, when later comes, another excuse is given and she is never allowed to make the call. I have purchased a couple of cell phones for her over the years, but they have been accidentally washed with her bedding and are no longer usable. My family simply wants our loved one to be treated with dignity, respect, and basic compassion. The issues I have described are not isolated incidents. I sincerely hope management takes these concerns seriously and takes immediate action to improve the quality of care being provided.
I’ve had a great experience working with Etowah Landing! I especially want to recognize Alexandria Turner, their social worker, for all the hard work she puts into making sure patients are well cared for both during their stay and when transitioning home. Her dedication and attention truly make a difference.
The entire building smells like bowel movement. Not sure how many times housekeeping cleans rooms or take out clients soiled diapers, sheets…Very uncomfortable visiting.
My mom is gone and I am heartbroken.. All they could tell me was that someone checked on her at 5pm and she was fine. When they went back in she didn’t have a pulse.. she was completely fine when I visited the day before. I was actually in the process of finding somewhere else for her to go and receive care and weaning off ventilator. My mom fought hard for a whole year and was making a lot of progress. I wish I would’ve gotten her out sooner.. unfortunately GA doesn’t have the best options for people who are on ventilators. my family and I need more answers than what ya’ll gave. I am truly heartbroken and my life is ruined. I lost my best friend. 💔
I tried everything to not have to get up here and post but after almost 2 years with my daughter there and her being a veteran and having a trach in she had a massive heart attack due to the covid vaccine if your family member is not able to do anything for themselves this is not the place for them I can't speak for the ones that's able to communicate in any way my daughter isn't able to so please let this faculty be your last opinion I'm 1 hour and 30 minutes away and still can't get there as much as I would like to but my presence is known in that place about my child and I really think the VA should pull their contract my daughter right now has been in Floyd medical center for the last 2 weeks with pneumonia and a bright lung due to not being sucking out properly until fluid billed up in her lungs until the point where they couldn't get it out I pray nothing happens like this to your loved ones and ICU staff are familiar with patience from etowah 7 falls in a year and a half for someone that's not able to move herself so you decide if this is where you want your family member to be and again though all the ups and downs with them I still tried now I'm having to send my child to another state to try and get her off the ventilator because of the pneumonia her O2is 100 percent blood pressure great just pray for my family and hopefully when she's better we can finally get her home for in home care and yes she's 24/7 care and just turned 39 this year heart attack Dec 2022 God is good all the time never give up and please fight because I'll never stop fighting and to other families of veterans that had heart attacks after being forced to take the COVID shot my heart goes out to you. The 2 people that are amazing for me is the social worker she's a person you can rely on when you need help with anything and what happened to my daughter is on the nurses and the respiratory department and I'm only speaking on my daughter because she was accepted because they accept contacts and her VA social workersl is amazing too and I'm glad they didn't hesitate to help me some of the things that happened there is out of their control and they can only follow up on whatever takes place again thanks Alex for always being a phone call away God Bless you dear
It appears that the employees are always a little understaffed, but they work hard to meet the needs of the patients. The facility is old and takes additional cleaning and sanitation to make it presentable. The social worker does a wonderful job to make things run well!! Very considerate of all situations and problems she faces on a daily basis. The Food is very good and on time. All outside doctor appointments for the VA are handled With transportation and patients being prepared to be transported! Our family is grateful for your help!
