I would ask your facility to work with other residences, family, and friends who have visited patients to be sure to contact / lobby government officials about the need for hospice and other types of care provided in your facilities to be paid for by Medicare Medicaid, or other private resources that a patient may have. As a long time oncology, nurse specialist, I believe that there are still many misconceptions within the general population about what comprises hospice care and how a patient and family may best access those available resources. Therefore, I would include this type of effort in future plans, whether it be strategic planning or public relations. Be sure to ask people whose family members are being cared for in your facilities to take an active role in the provision or for services as valuable as the ones you deliver. I have found in over 40 years of working in Hematology-Oncology that patients & their support network are some of the most effective advocates that exist for patients in need of this vital service.
They are not trained properly. I had items stolen. They did not assist you hen help was needed at night or after hours. Money was wasted on a call button that they never answered. Get to know everyone who is involved in your love one's heath care, make sure they write a care plan and check your expenses. Ask questions about staff training and education. If your love one needs a lot of assistance look elsewhere. If they are independent, they should be okay. The amount of money paid did not equal the services rendered.
My loved one was previously a resident at The Phoenix at Dunwoody and our overall experience with this facility was terrible. I do not feel like the the salesperson that we worked with was truthful with us. In fact, I think the salesperson was intentionally hiding information. Again, not a good experience. I would not recommend The Phoenix at Dunwoody to others.
The Phoenix at Dunwoody was very quiet when we were there. There wasn't a lot going on. I'm sure it's a wonderful place, and I liked the lady who was giving us the tour. But the memory care wasn't so nice and the rooms weren't as nice. It was more like an office. It just didn't feel homey to me. They were having a plumbing issue, so they were fixing it, and it just smelled. I saw the dining room, but the lights were kind of dim because nobody was eating at the time, so it just didn't look very inviting.
I didn't care for the tour at The Phoenix at Dunwoody. I thought the manager was odd to me. She kept changing what she had said. She gave me the impression of somebody who was going to just try to meet your needs without being honest about what it was. I didn't like the place, too. Everything was very military and very kind of macho male to me. My ex-husband also agreed with me that the tour was kind of odd. For activities, we didn't see anything going on then. We didn't see people around or anything there. The staff showed me one room which I didn't care for. She talked my ex-husband into liking it by saying it had a balcony, but the balcony was tiny. As I recall, the room didn't have furnishings or anything. It was kind of an empty room at that point. We didn't see a lot of the place, but what we saw, there was nothing that looked out of place or anything.
Overall except last couple of weeks 4+ My Mothers backside at the coccyx began to have skin breakdown and I think she became dehydrated. Individually each caregiver listened to my concerns but I don't think my suggestions were taken . The faculty as a whole was good. They hurriedly sent my Mother to St Joseph one evening where the skin breakdown escalated and she began to fail rapidly; my opinion The manager in charge gets a 5. I don't want to hurt his position or his job. I feel he did his best to try.
Just Awful! Dont send your loved one here!!
I would recommend you look elsewhere. The staff is very friendly and accommodating; however, some of the services offered didn't meet up to the standards expected. There could be a new cook due to the taste and food choices offered. There has been several staff members that have left.
