We had checked out Ashton Manor independent living for my father two years ago and I was extremely impressed by the facility and the people that work there. So when I relocated my father to Georgia, I decided to put him in Ashton Manor, thinking things have not changed well unbeknownst to me they had A major changeover of ownership. My father was there for 2 1/2 months. He was miserable the entire time as most of the residents. There are very lonely because there’s nothing going on at all. We did try to Get a refund even though the paperwork does say that you have to give one months notice.…
We did try to Get a refund even though the paperwork does say that you have to give one months notice. Luckily for us, I got a phone call from Laurel Grove at Barclay by Michael Who got my name off of a Place For Mom. He told us to come visit And. There’s no obligation. we found the place to be very invited very friendly and cheaper than .Ashton Manor. So you may wonder why we decided to take my father out so suddenly first of all the lady in charge had a tendency to be very rude to some of the residents not to my father, but he witnessed it and was very embarrassed. His room had bugs in it even though they sprayed for, and I had to buy him extra spray to keep the bugs down. The bus was never working. I had to go out of town unexpectedly, and my father could not get his prescription even though he repeatedly asked people in the offices to help There but no one did. I feel that all of these instances made it clear that I had to move him. He is extremely happy in his new place at Laurel Grove by Barclay. They’re constantly doing stuff there , the food is excellent and there’s somebody on staff that you can speak to at all times the Concierge is excellent. They have many trips planned weekly ,lots and lots of activities going on so it was well worth losing my $2300. I was told to take my first post down and they would try to refund me my money which I did, but nothing has happened so I’ve decided to be totally honest to save other people. The stress that has caused me and my father.
My other review was removed due to the graphic photos. I would strongly encourage families to carefully consider other options before placing a loved one at Ashton Manor at Sugarloaf, My father lived at this facility for approximately 18 months, and my experience was extremely disappointing and, at times, deeply disturbing. STAFF TURNOVER & COMMUNICATION: During my father’s residency, there was constant turnover in leadership and staff. Over the course of his stay, I interacted with close to 20 different Executive Directors, nurses, caregivers, medication technicians, and family advisors.…
Over the course of his stay, I interacted with close to 20 different Executive Directors, nurses, caregivers, medication technicians, and family advisors. There was very little continuity, accountability, or consistency. Concerns often had to be repeatedly explained because leadership and staff were constantly changing. CLEANLINESS & ENVIRONMENT: A majority of the time I visited, portions of the facility smelled strongly of feces. I also personally observed and documented roach issues, bed bug concerns, and black mold in my father’s room. At one point, I observed what I estimated to be approximately 100 roaches in his room. I repeatedly reported these concerns to leadership. BED BUGS & RESIDENT MONITORING: One of the most upsetting experiences involved bed bugs. After staff informed me that bed bugs and bed bug eggs had been found involving my father’s mattress area, I later discovered the same contaminated mattress had been transferred into another room instead of being removed from service. Even more disturbing, I personally discovered multiple bed bug bites on my father’s body after staff had already been aware of bed bug concerns involving his room. Staff assisting him with showers and hygiene had not identified, documented, or reported the bites to me. When I brought the bites to their attention, staff appeared unaware they were even present. Because my father suffered from dementia, he depended heavily on staff observation and monitoring. Instead, I often found myself identifying serious issues on my own. MEDICAL & SUPERVISION CONCERNS: One of the most traumatic incidents occurred when I entered my father’s room and found him lethargic, drifting in and out of consciousness, and covered in blood, with blood saturating his clothing, face, hat, and a towel beside him. No one had contacted me before my arrival, and emergency services had not yet been called until I instructed staff to do so. I also repeatedly experienced concerns involving delayed communication about medical changes, medication handling concerns, and situations where I felt serious issues were not being proactively identified or escalated by staff. ACTIVITIES & QUALITY OF LIFE: I also felt there was very limited engagement and stimulation for residents. As my father’s condition declined, I became increasingly concerned about his emotional wellbeing, lack of engagement, and overall quality of life within the facility environment. DOCUMENTATION CONCERNS: At one point, I was asked to sign documentation acknowledging a care plan and assessment that had not yet been completed or reviewed with me at the time I signed it. I recognize every family’s experience may be different. However, based on my own personal experience, documentation, photographs, videos, emails, and repeated communications with facility leadership over an extended period of time, I would not place another loved one at this facility.
“My brother lives here and I visit pretty regularly. Every time I come by, I’m impressed by how welcoming and attentive the staff is. They’re always accommodating during my visits and take the time to make both residents and family members feel comfortable. The community is clean, well maintained, and has a really positive atmosphere. The biggest thing for me is the peace of mind—it’s clear the people working here truly care about the residents and take pride in what they do. Our family is grateful to know my brother is in such a supportive place.”
Ashton Manor has been a wonderful place for my grandmother and our family. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome, respected, and genuinely cared for. My grandmother receives attentive, compassionate support every day, and the team takes time to know her routines, preferences, and stories. The community is always clean, safe, and filled with cheerful energy. Activities are engaging, meals are delicious, and communication with our family is excellent. Knowing she is so well looked after gives us real peace of mind. I highly recommend Ashton Manor to anyone seeking quality senior living care. (:
This place is by far one of the worse senior livings out here. When my grandfather move into this place he was promised so many things by Cathy who was the sales director. He was promised laundry pickup and cleaned and that they also do all these great outings and activities and it hasn’t been nothing but a pain. It crazy how they have a full staff and we have to come take care of him, he has not been getting showers and haven’t had one in three weeks when we found out. It was getting better when Natasha was in charge and a lovely lady by Jackie she was great and also the food was great when Chef Parker was there. But after I’ve seen they were all replaced by people who don’t know what is going on is crazy. I feel like this place has become a family building. Cathy who is the now acting Executive Director fired the last sales Director for her daughter this place is bad news. Also the way that I heard how they ran the Chef there into a hospital is crazy. Chef Parker looked out for so many people there and he loved his job and these residents. He checked on my grandfather multiple times and we had great conversations. Jackie was also great at getting stuff done and didn’t feed us lies. Natasha was great as keeping everything in order and the place looked great. You can also tell most of the residents are not happy with the changes. But honestly if you have a family member here you need to move them out.
First of all, do not bring your loved ones here. My 90 year old grandfather moved from out of state to be closer to my mom and I. On his first day there, he found that the light fixture in the closet didn’t work so he put in a maintenance request. When they finally came, they left glass all over the floor. My grandfather bought a vacuum and ended up cleaning it himself. His refrigerator constantly turned itself off so his frozen food would end up thawing. The AC went out in July and he received a portable fan in August. When he was touring the place, he was told that he would have laundry service weekly, which was not the case at all. His clothes even came back damp sometimes when they did come. He was also told he would be provided supplies, such as paper towels, toilet paper, and garbage bags. He never received that. Housekeeping was also inconsistent. The only thing that’s consistent is the smell of urine in the lobby. Now onto the food: per my grandfather, who is not a picky eater at all, the food is not edible. The portions were also too small. Not to mention the lovely 64 that they received on a health inspect from last month. I’m grateful that my grandfather is to get what he needs on his own or with help from family. But what if he couldn’t? I think about the other residents there who couldn’t do for themselves or didn’t have family near to help. Ashton Manor, DO BETTER.
I’ve had a wonderful experience with Ashton Manor and can’t say enough about the warmth and professionalism of the team. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed and supported. The community is clean, inviting, and truly feels like home. Executive Director Cathy is exceptional. Her leadership is evident in the positive atmosphere and the genuine care shown to residents. She is attentive, compassionate, and clearly dedicated to maintaining a high standard of living and dignity for everyone in the community. Family Advisor Rebecca provided an especially warm welcome and made the entire transition process smooth and reassuring. She took the time to answer every question, offered thoughtful guidance, and made us feel confident in our decision. It’s clear that Ashton Manor prioritizes both residents and their families. I highly recommend this community to anyone seeking a caring, supportive, and well-managed senior living environment.
My experience with the Executive Director, Cathy, was very disappointing and unprofessional. I felt my concerns about my loved one’s health were not taken seriously and that financial matters were prioritized over resident well-being. The community appeared poorly managed and not well maintained. Several residents seemed unhappy, and some did not appear to be receiving adequate care or engagement. During my visit, I noticed roaches, and a staff member mentioned that bed bugs have been an ongoing issue. The most recent Georgia Department of Health inspection report reflects an unsatisfactory score of 64, noting roaches on countertops and inside the ice machine. Based on what I observed, I strongly encourage families to carefully consider other options. Choosing wisely may help protect your loved one’s health and save time, money, and unnecessary stress.
