After the unexpected passing of our loved one at the end of the month, we asked to rent the apartment for an additional month to have time to move out possessions in a reasonable manner. The manager agreed and said we would need to sign papers and pay for the month. We were great with those conditions. Manager then informed us that the lease had been broken (we would need to pay for five additional months to maintain lease) and they would be keeping the $960 security deposit. We immediately moved out all belongings and turned in the key on the 1st day of the following month (Monday). The office was not open on the weekend (the end of the month). The manager wanted me to sign papers saying I would pay for cleaning (the apartment was cleaned professionally every week) and the months rent. We refused so they did some creative bookkeeping and said we must pay rent for the day I turned in the key at 9:30 a.m. When we rented the apartment 18 months ago there was a year waiting list. I know the apartment will be rented in a very short time. I feel the management is taking advantage of seniors and their families and that is unforgivable. Please read the lease very carefully and beware when dealing with site manager.
